The Santa Ynez
Valley Natural History Society Student Research and Education Award for
2009 is awarded to teacher Rick Mexico and his Life Science students at
Jonata School for their fine Bird Project posters and models of local
birds. We commend this class project because it benefits all participating students and also inspires individual learning. It will instill a lifelong love and appreciation of local bird life in the Santa Ynez Valley and places beyond. (Rick Mexico, Left, accepts the award from society president Marc Kummel) |

Treewalks Docents from the Society offer free "Treewalks" to students in grades 5 through 8. These nature walks, which can be between 40 minutes or longer, depending on class schedules, explore the natural and cultural history associated with a variety of trees that are found on, or near, each school's campus. We encourage educators who would like to arrange for a Treewalk or to learn more about this program to contact the Society.
