Founded in 2000, the The Santa Ynez Valley Natural History Society is a member-supported nonprofit organization that provides environmental education through public lectures, field trips, and workshops in the Santa Ynez Valley region.  The purposes for founding Santa Ynez Valley Natural History Society are as follows:

To provide free or low cost education to our members and the public at large to enable them to enhance their knowledge of the natural world, including our local plants, animals, geology, paleontology, ecology, and restoration and conservation biology by organizing programs and field trips, evening lectures, restoration and conservation workshops, newspaper articles and other written materials;

To support natural history education through outreach to public schools in the Santa Ynez Valley, providing resources and educational material, speakers, field trip leaders to enable the public schools to teach natural history to their students;

To support local student natural history projects through awards, outreach, and educational opportunities;

To work closely with other natural history organizations in the area to provide natural history educational opportunities to schools, our members, and the public at large.

To serve as a resource for the public for information regarding the natural history of the Santa Ynez Valley and to serve as a resource for the public to provide access to natural history speakers.
